Luke Hughes is renowned for designing and engineering custom furniture. He has worked on numerous notable public buildings, historic school and college library refurbishments. Famous for “bespoke furniture built to last”, he was entrusted by Eton College to design and manufacture 169 benches for the college’s theatre during an extensive renovation. He contacted Cube (Edward Baden Specialist Movers) on behalf of his client – Eton College.
The Project
Cube Fine Art Services are experienced in storing and delivering high-end antiques, furniture, artwork, fashion collections and wine collections. Some respected clients for whom we store and relocate goods are V&A, Imperial War Museum, Science Museum, National Railway Museum, Somerset House, British Museum as well as other esteemed businesses and organisations.
Cube would collect the pre-packaged curved and straight benches with flat and raked fleet from Hampshire and deliver them to Cube Self Storage (Edward Baden Storage Facility). For this moving and storage project, Cube proposed two methods;
Option 1: Transfer and store the benches on end. This would enable more benches to be transferred at once and less storage requirements.
Option 2: Transfer the benches singly, on feet and single stacked.
The benches would remain in the Temperature and Humidity controlled storage area for 3 to 6 months. To ensure safety and enhance protection, they were placed on custom-built racking.
They would then be delivered to Eton College in a fully sequential order, ready for installation.
